Welcome to IMER/UIB
IMER/UiB, International Migration and Ethnic Relations at the University of Bergen, is a multidisciplinary research unit at the University of Bergen. The aim of IMER/UiB is to contribute to research-based knowledge about international migration, not least related to European countries, including the consequences of immigration and emigration for societies.
IMER/UiB is developing four closely related research programs. These are:
| 1) The Global Turn - processes and effects of selected features of globalization, especially as related to migraton and its consequences; | |
2) Diversity, Citizenship and Public Sphere - how diversity necessitates new notions about political life, most prominently in citizenship and public sphere;
3) People at Borders and Boundaries - the sociology of movement, processes of inclusion and exclusion, the construction and control of spaces;
4) Contested Sovereignties - discourses of power, the construction of 'truths' and their social and political manifestations, human rights, local, national and global changes in regime formations;
